bad design could lead to seatbelt unbuckling on it’s own

takata strikes again! (well.. and poor design)
but come on.... you’d think car makers would have stopped buying takata by now

STOP USING THE MIDDLE SEAT IMMEDIATELY.

Takata might make the buckle but the OEMs select which one they want and how they install them.

yeah... thats why also said poor design... but apparently the button to loosen the belt is also very sensitive

I’m not going to say where I use to work, but lets just say it was in an engineering position for seatbelts. That button force can be a real fine line to walk. There is a feature so the g-forces of an impact can’t depress the button and release it, there is a test to make sure elbows can’t unintentionally unlatch it but if the spring supplier gets a little out of tolerance and then this mounting happens well....there you go.

welp... at least it was discovered before anyone died..
tho i am surprised the airbags didnt sink takata (i dont wish it on them.. coz thats a lot of jobs) but i am surprised they survived that
anyhoo off to work now (apparently when the boss says be ten minutes early what he means is be half an hour early)
have a good one mate :)

It bankrupted Takata actually. They were then purchased by a Chinese conglomerate. But good chatting with you and yes, always good to find the problem before anyone gets hurt

It seems like the only reason Takata is still alive is that if they went under, manufacturers would be on the hook for replacing all those airbags. Better to let Takata pile up that debt.
